3. Litchfield Country Club developed on what was part of Litchfield Plantation, one of the largest plantations on the Waccamaw Neck. Today the golf course and stately Clubhouse are nestled among giant live oaks that date back to the early 18th Century. It's among the oldest, and remains one of the most prestigious clubs on the Grand Strand.

4. Long Bay Club is a Jack Nicklaus "signature course," it is far better than many of his higher-priced spreads. It features deep pot bunkers, vast waste areas, extensive mounding, tight fairways, fast greens and a great little par-3 (No. 13). Their 10th hole has become one of the most recognized in Myrtle Beach golf.

5. Myrtle Beach National - Kings North was named "South Carolina's Course of the Year for 1996" and in 1997 Golf Digest ranked it among the "Top 10 New Upscale Public Courses in America." There are lakes, ponds, and marshes coming into play on sixteen holes. This track is certainly one of Arnie's best, and is also one of the best tracks in the area.

5. Myrtle Beach National - SouthCreek is the easier of the three MBN courses. Water comes into play on only six holes, and the well-guarded greens are relatively small. Winding through wetlands and hardwood forests, it's a pretty flat tract, but uneven lies are common because of some of the mounding, and their new MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermuda greens are a big plus.

7. River Club was one of the first "plantation" golf courses. It features wide-open fairways and large greens with some elevations and undulations. There is water in play on 15 holes here, and over 100 bunkers await errant shots. Their signature hole, the 518-yard, par 5, 18th was rated as one of the best finishing holes in the area.

8. Tournament Players Club is currently ranked No. 8 in South Carolina on GolfWeek's Best Courses You Can Play. Dubbed "The Pinehurst No. 2 of Myrtle Beach," features narrow, wind-swept fairways combined with water features and wetlands that come into play on 11 holes - spread throughout the tract. 9. Tradition Golf Club, like the name says, this is a traditional-style layout in the land of plantation-style courses. It features wide fairways, lots of sand, water in play on ten holes, seven holes in the marshes, large, undulating greens, and two island greens one of them is a par 4.

13. Willbrook Plantation Golf Club is built on the site of two rice plantations, and is a mix between plantation and traditional styles. It features lakes, old oaks, wildlife, waterways, numerous traps, waste bunkers, wetlands and average size, but tough, greens. Their 1st and 15th holes have received some local renown. They completely restored their greens to their original size with hearty Champions Bermuda.
